Elgin has a rich history dating back to 1902, when the city’s post office was established as “Ceegee” after prominent Oklahoma City developer Charles G. Jones. However, the name was changed to Elgin in July of that year due to objections from the U.S. Post Office Department. The city grew and developed thanks to the construction of the Oklahoma City and Western Railroad between 1901 and 1903, which eventually became the St. Louis and San Francisco railway.
